| SNOW DAY |

***

She woke up to a cold draft floating in her room. Blinking the sleep away from her tired eyes, she peered around her semi-bright room. Her window, which was open from last night, allowed her to see the white world around her. It was cloudy outside the sun’s rays still penetrated the world below.
She sat up and gazed longingly outside. Snow. The last time she saw the white blanket on the earth was years ago at the mountains she would go to with her family. She smiled and shifted her body so she could climb off her bed.
Her feet sank in the soft carpet that lingered on her floor and she padded her way to her closet, dragging a winter coat off its hanger and slipping it over her sweater clad body. She stuffed her feet in some boots, not caring if it was rain boots. She then slapped a beanie on her head and made her way out of her room, creeping along the quiet hallways to the winter wonderland outside.
Her feet crunched the snow below her, the sound emitting a shiver of excitement through her body. A breathtaking grin spread across her lips as she gazed at the snow covered trees and world around her. It was like stepping into a fairy tale.
She walked further down the driveway of the home until she was on the grass. She twirled around once, watching the puffy snowflakes swirl in the air, landing on her, the ground, and the objects around it. A slow wind picked up, causing her honey brown hair to dance with the flakes.
Her eyes became obscured by some of the flakes that landed on her lashes, kissing her face with every blink. But she heeded it not for her attention was solely on the quiet that the snow brought to the world.
She took a deep breath of the frigid yet refreshing air and felt her mood lighten up even more. A certain spark was ignited in her eyes as she swooped down and scooped up a fresh pile of snow. She patted it down into a ball before squishing it and throwing it upwards, making a bit more snow fall over herself.
As she had fun in the snow, she was unaware of a man watching her with a grin of his own. He watched the beautiful girl with an innocent smile on her face from the simplest thing- snow. It was hard to find someone so pleased with the small things nature provided so it was as refreshing as the air around them.
He slowly pulled up from his resting spot against the fence separating their homes. He had just moved in the night before and woke up to the morning light on his face. Deciding to look out the window, he saw her walking gracefully outside still in her pajamas. He decided to join her.
"You might need something warmer if you decide to stay out here all day," he said and cracked a grin as he saw her startle, a surprised smile still etched on her face. Her cheeks and nose were flushed red from the cold but her smile said she didn't care. Her eyes still twinkled with mirth and he felt his own energy spiking just by watching her.
"Well I fear if I leave now to dress warmer, everything will melt away," she replied in a sweet, melodic voice.
"From the way it's snowing now, it won't go away anytime soon," he answered back as he slowly approached her, his own boots crunching the snow underneath him. He wasn't immune to snow. Even though he grew up in a state that always snowed during the winter, he never failed to be amazed at how beautiful it was.
"Well, kind sir. Seeing as you're new here, there's something you should know. In this state, we don't get much snow at all. It'll melt by tonight and by the time I come back outside, everyone will be out laughing and playing, ruining the serenity right now," she shot back with humor laced in her voice. She swiped at the stray strands of hair that danced in front of her.
"It is as you say. I'm new here, so I'll need some guidance how this quiet town works," he offered with a bow and a wink of his blue eyes. She chuckled, her grin widening in excitement.
"Well, my momma always said no talking to strangers. Pray tell, what's your name?" she asked in such a posh way that he burst into laughter.
"My name's Jack," he answered. "Jack Frost," he added with a playful wink and she covered her mouth with her bare hands which were white and numb.
"Naughty, naughty," she replied through her laugh and he laughed and shook his head, standing in front of her now. He stood at least a good head taller than her.
"My name is Jack Gibbs. A pleasure to meet you fair lady," he stated instead as he held his hand out. She took it and shook it.
"My name is Dakota. Dakota Wells," she offered and he lifted her hand to kiss it.
"It's a pleasure, Dakota," he whispered and suddenly everything became hushed again.
They stared into each other's eyes before Dakota drew a hand from behind her and slapped a snowball on his thick hair. His mouth dropped open in shock while she laughed and bounced away with a grin on her face.
A competitive grin took over his features as he wiped the snow from his hair. "So that's how it's going to be, isn't it?" he asked as he bent down to scoop some snow in his palms.
"Welcome to the neighborhood," was the only reply before the war was on.
As more laughs and squeals of excitement erupted from the mouths of everyone who woke up to play in the snow, Dakota and Jack shared a smile warmer than the brightest fire and an understanding passed between. Something sparked between the two and all it took was a snow day to ignite it.

So it's been a while since I last posted something here. A long while. But I do hope you enjoyed reading this little snow special I wrote. I was inspired to write it since it's snowing where I live, and like Dakota, where I live, it doesn't snow...at all. So enjoy it while I do the same xD
Thanks for reading! <3
