My Life to Save Yours

And so it began, her first writing journey experience. Her first attempt at a short story, a thousand words or less. And as she prepared to post it, she hoped with all her might that her readers would enjoy the start of her journey.

My Life to Save Yours
* * *
She held the dying woman in her arms while tears cascaded down her cheeks. Dark red blood soaked through her white dress while the woman took pained and staggering breaths.
"No, please live!" cried the young girl to the almost lifeless woman. "You have to live," she chocked as she clutched the woman tightly.
"N-no. Y-you...must...live on," the woman gasped in pain. She then grimaced while squeezing her eyes shut tight.
"No! I can't live without you!" screeched the girl as tears continued to fall. "There has to be some way to save you!" she continued as her tears wet the woman's pale and ashen face.
"T-there...isn't," whispered the woman as she slowly opened her eyes.
The girl was rendered quiet as she frantically thought of some way to save the woman. Then, like a candle lit in a dark room, an idea popped up. She exclaimed, "Wait, there is!" Her tears began to cease as she thought of this possibility. The only thing left on her face was the dried marks of the tears as well as her puffy red eyes. "I'll exchange my life to save yours! I can do it!"
The woman's dull eyes widened as she tried to make out the blurry image of the girl. "N-no! Y-you can't!" she softly exclaimed as she reached up and cupped the girl's face.
"Yes I can! It's better for you to live than me. You can always make another daughter or son. Whereas if I live, I can't make another mother. I won't be able to survive without you. It'll be impossible," the girl answered as tears began forming again. She touched her mother's cold cheek and placed her forehead on her mother's. "Please, allow me to save you as you have saved me," she whispered as her voice cracked.
The woman remained silent. The only thing she did was give staggered breathing. Finally, she gave a deep sigh. "My daughter," she croaked as she touched her daughter's dark black hair. "Renesmay," she whispered. Renesmay looked at her mother's fading crystalline colored eyes while tears pooled in her violet ones. "Oh...Ren-es-may," her mother staggered as she began to become limp.
"N-no," Renesmay whispered as she looked at her mother frantically. "No! Take my life! Take it!" she screamed as she hugged her mother. "Take it! Take it! Take it!" she continued to screech as she began transferring her life energy to her mother. "Take it! Take it all! Take it!"
"Renesmay!" exclaimed her mother as she began getting color back. "Don't!" she shouted as she began healing while Renesmay began to become limp.
"Yes...take it. You know you want it," Renesmay whispered as tears continued to fall. She began to slowly fade, starting from her feet.
"No! Renesmay! Stop! I don't need your life! Save it! Save your life!" her mother called out as her bleeding began to stop and heal.
Renesmay then stopped glowing while her feet and legs disappeared. She now lay in her mother's lap with a weak smile and lifeless eyes. "Are you...well? Mother?" she barely managed to say as she slowly raised her hand and touched her mother's cheek.
Her mother's eyes shook with fear and loss as she placed her warm hand on her daughter's cold one. "Renesmay," she whispered as she then hugged her fading daughter. "Yes. I'm well," she added as she placed a firm kiss on her daughter's brow. "I'm well. Thank you." She knew there was nothing she could do now.
"I'm...so glad," Renesmay croaked as she closed her eyes and smiled. They sat in silence with silent tears falling from Renesmay's mother's face. Renesmay herself was shedding tears but she still kept a smile on her face. However, that slowly changed to a frown. She continued to scrunch her face up as her breathing began to labor. Her mother began panicking and screaming out her name but Renesmay could not hear anymore.
"Renesmay! Renesmay!!" her mother screeched as Renesmay began to breathe her last.
"Mo-ther," she hardly said just as she gave up her last breath.
"NOOOOOO!!!" her mother screamed as her daughter faded all together. Small violet particles rose in the air and began to float away while Renesmay's mother cried and screamed hysterically. "MY BABY!!!" she screamed as she began chasing the particles.
However, they floated above buildings and the woman was forced to stop at the lapping water of the ocean on the other side. She fell on her knees as she watched her faded daughter float away. Her crying was hysterical though she didn't realize.
Suddenly, she heard such a light whisper as one lone particle drifted by her. "Enjoy living. After all, I gave my life to save yours," it said honestly just as it joined the rest of its look a-likes. The woman remained petrified with silence. Her crying became silent but tears did not stop flowing. She was only able to mutter one word. And that was-"Renesmay."

She wiped the stray tears that slipped from her eyes as she finished the last of the story. Sometimes she wondered where she even got those depressing ideas from. Hopefully things would become lighter from now on. But no promises could be made.
